I think I understand why the super continent, Pangaea, had to drift apart and create many lands separated by oceans. With lots of different lands, some lands could remain unexplored. And this was important. This served a purpose.

I often fall asleep at night listening to a book or lecture on my iphone. It quiets my mind and I forget about my day’s worries. One night I was listening to Cleon Skousen’s book, Prophecy and Modern Timeswhen I had a flash of inspiration about the Pangaea (the earth’s supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.)

I was visualizing that huge land mass called the Pangaea and I was wondering why it didn’t stay together. And then I realized that the land mass drifted apart so that there would be other lands when needed. When a society became so corrupt, God could lead a group of people away — away to a new land — a promised land.

In this way, God could preserve a righteous people and bring them out from among the chaos, leading them to a new land.

God told Abraham to leave his home

Now the Lord had said unto me: Abraham, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee. (Abraham 2:3)

The Lord warned Lehi that Jerusalem would be destroyed

And it came to pass that the Lord commanded my father, even in a dream, that he should take his family and depart into the wilderness. (1 Nephi 2: 2)

The brother of Jared asked the Lord to spare their family and friends during the time of the Tower of Babel and the confounding of the language:

And it came to pass that the Lord commanded them that they should go forth into the wilderness, yea, into that quarter where there never had man been…that they should come forth even unto the land of promise, which was choice above all other lands, which the Lord God had preserved for a righteous people. (Ether 2: 2 -7)

TowerofBabel

Today, there are no “new” lands of promise. People live on every continent. Yet in the last days, the Lord has promised to save His people. This time it will require a massive clearing of the land — as wickedness increases, so will chaos until the earth rids itself of all the evil. But there is hope. A promised land and people will emerge — Zion.

And thus, with the sword and by bloodshed the inhabitants of the earth shall mourn; and with famine, and plague, and earthquake, and the thunder of heaven, and the fierce and vivid lightning also, shall the inhabitants of the earth be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty God, until the consumption decreed hath made a full end of all nations;

That the cry of the saints, and of the blood of the saints, shall cease to come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabath, from the earth, to be avenged of their enemies.

Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it cometh quickly, saith the Lord. Amen. (D&C 87: 6-8)

So if you see the world around you full of craziness — seek to find some holy ground in your life. Learn to hear the voice of God. For the Lord will guide you as He did Abraham and Lehi and the Jaredites, among others. Maybe not to a new land, but He will give you peace.
