I pulled my kids out of school 14 years ago and decided to homeschool. Almost immediately a calm feeling came over me — the realization and confirmation — that I had made the right decision.

It was not an easy one, because I had to be a bit of a rebel to do it. The school system, the neighbors, the people you know begin to see you differently. They think you are a little crazy. But I’m comfortable with that. I followed my instincts and promptings — you are free to do the same.

For me and my situation in life, I have never looked back — never wished I had kept them in public school. I only wish I had jumped in the water sooner for my first two kids who missed the homeschool experience.

If you have that same inkling of “maybe this is something I should do” — then I encourage you to give it a try. You can always go back to public school. But time goes by, your kids grow up and your opportunity is gone. Not every mom can even have this choice, but if you do, think about it.

Since I made the choice, that calm feeling has continued.

Here are ten reasons to homeschool:

1.   No crazy person is going to burst into your classroom and starting shooting a gun.
2.   No parent teacher conferences where the teacher tells you how it is.
3.   No bullies. When sibling rivalry interferes, you understand, intervene, and teach correct principles.
4.   No homework. Your kids accomplish more in a shorter amount of time with one-on-one instruction.
5.   No inept teachers that you have to put-up with for the entire class year.
6.   You learn new things with your kids.
7.   History becomes interesting. The football coach is not the history teacher.
8.   Your kids are confident around peers and adults.
9.   Reading books are enjoyable, not for a test or book report.
10.  You get to wear you pajama bottoms to class.
