I’ve often heard this question, but never thought about it seriously — come on, God is serious.
But then I must admit that God is a Being of passions. He weeps, expresses joy, mercy, love and hate. I guess He could have a sense of humor. At first, it may seem an un-Godly characteristic, yet a sense of humor can de-fuse an otherwise tense situation.
We appreciate someone who has a sense of humor. It’s a good characteristic. I believe God is my Father, I am his offspring — maybe humor is more than just a mortal emotion. Maybe God does have a sense of humor.
When stupid silly things happen it is good to have a sense of humor. When the large family-sized container of chicken noodle soup you just bought at Costco tips over in the back of your car, the lid popping off, and all the chicken, noodles, onions and carrots spilling out onto the carpet–it is good to have a sense of humor, remain calm, laugh, and say “I can’t believe that happened.” Especially with little kids and little ears in the car.
This happened to my daughter. Her remedy for the situation–calling out the dogs. Good creative mom-thinking, I say.Good humor too.

A year ago we sold our home in southern cal and moved to northern California. My husband’s work was in the Sacramento area, he had been traveling weekly for two years, living out of hotels and an office trailer. We had tried to sell earlier but the housing bust interfered with our plans. Last October we finally sold and moved all 33 years of our stuff into containers to be shipped up north. After staying with my mom in the LA area for a bit, we leased a home in a beautiful hilly area of oak trees in northern Calif. It felt like home. Finally, close to work.

That same day we signed the lease on our home, my husband’s small business got the boot. His project got  turned over to another character. A say character, because it played out like a movie. He was an associate, a friend who knew we were relocating to be close to the work. He knew, yet he had planned to take over the project and be the new manager. He had worked behind our backs, chumming it up with the funder, just like an intense movie.
We have had no income for 8 months now. Unplanned. Unexpected. We live in this beautiful area, but the work is no longer here. Not even for a day. The promised consulting fees? no.
Lately, my husband has business contacts in southern cal. and Mexico. Now he travels back to the area we left. We moved here to be close to work. Now again, we live where we do not work.
Do you see the comedy of this? Does God have a sense of humor or what?”
OK, I see the comedy of it all. But does God too?  Maybe it’s a test.  Remain calm, have faith, trust not in the arm of flesh, it will all work out–that sort of thing.

Maybe I just need to call in the dogs.
