I found an antidote to negativity.

I collect rocks. It’s not like I purposely go out prospecting for minerals — it’s more that I hike and find interesting rocks along the way. Recently I downloaded an app that helps you identify the rocks, minerals, and gems that you find.  This last week when there was a break from all the rain, I hiked up a well-traversed mountain often used by the fire department. A gully of water cut across the road and I saw a greenish rock which I picked up and toted back with me. The app identified it as Epidote —

not one of the most common minerals to stumble across, but when ou do, hold on with both hands. This is an incredibly precious mineral for collectors…the relative rarity makes it a genuine treasure.

The identifier app also gives the healing properties for epidote — which is something I could definitely use —

believed to enhance spiritual growth and empower all who come in contact with it. Its power is said to help the body release negative energy and allow for positive healing. It is often used to counteract feelings of depression, and restore vitality and hope.

I did some more reading about epidote:

Removing resistance, Epidote gently dissolves densities that are causing dis-ease and returns the body to its natural state of flow. Aligning your energy to a higher frequency, it instills hope and courage to create positive change in your life. With practice, it encourages you to master your mindset by consciously shifting your narrative to reflect a more positive outlook on life.

Everything you experience in the world is a mirror of your inherent beliefs. By re-training your thoughts to override your current circumstance, you initiate the action for obtaining your heart’s desire. By harnessing the amplifying abilities of Epidote, you can receive anything you wish to attract. (ref)

When I read “dis-ease” I realized that the word “disease” is made up of the two words, “dis” and “ease” — in other words, without ease or not comfortable. Turns out the word originated from Latin and old French.

early 14c., “discomfort, inconvenience, distress, trouble,” from Old French desaise “lack, want; discomfort, distress; trouble, misfortune; disease, sickness,” from des- “without, away” (see dis-) + aise “ease”

At ease:  “at rest, at peace, in comfort” is from late 14c.; as a military order (1802) the word denotes “freedom from stiffness or formality.” (ref)

Strange to realize — that when I picked up the rocks, I was the first person to hold them since they were formed in the earth’s evolution. That’s kind of cool.

Epidote amplifies our highest vibrations, helping us to transform our lives in a multitude of ways. It teaches us to walk, talk, and think as our Highest Self. Epidote has a very loving and forgiving energy, inviting us to let go of anything that holds us back from enjoying life and living with passion and integrity. (ref)

Epidote is made up of transparent to opaque prismatic crystals with elongated striations. The color ranges from yellow-green to dark green or almost black depending on the amount of iron present. It also forms in fibrous or massive habits and is found with many other minerals, including Albite, Quartz, Garnet, Prehnite, Diopside, and Calcite. Epidote is a Sorosilcate mineral that is typically formed in metamorphic rocks, sometimes during hydrothermal events which transform sedimentary and metamorphic rocks into igneous rocks.
