Cary Grant often plays roles where he looks all suave and debonair. But in “Father Goose”, he is all beach bum and unshaven, escaping society. There’s still plenty of romance and comedy in “Father Goose.” But you won’t be seeing him look like this:

The 1964 film, “Father Goose,” starring Cary Grant, Leslie Caron and Trevor Howard is a comedy set during World War II. There’s not much about the war in this film. Cary Grant is the lone man on an isolated island when he is persuaded to go undercover with the code name, “Mother Goose” and notify the Australian Navy when he spots enemy Japanese planes. Things get complicated when French school mistress, Leslie Caron and seven young girls of dignitaries get stranded with him. The two of them tangle a bit, but Cary Grant comes to the rescue when Miss Caron tangles with a snake.

The movie was shot in Jamaica and received an Academy Award for best  screenplay. It was directed by Ralph Nelson (Charly, The Lilies of The Field.)
