We live in an age when we get things instantly. We access the Internet for quick answers, we text friends and family as a thought occurs. If we are feeling low in energy, we might grab a Coke or an Energy drink, or a candy bar. I get it, and I’m guilty of looking for a quick pick-me-up. However, there are some better alternatives.
Good old mother earth has produced herbs with qualities that will improve your ability to handle stress. They’re calledadaptogens. And when you take these herbs, they help your body adapt to physical and mental stress — which leads to an increase in energy. Since we can’t remove much of the stress in our life, it seems like a good idea to strengthen our system. That’s where these three herbs come into play.
But be aware, these are not “instant” remedies for when you are feeling low in energy. You must take them over a period of time. Weeks or Months. This is a better solution to your lack of stamina — because you will not be stimulating your CNS with drugs like caffeine.
1. Panax Ginseng Root:
In Mandarin Chinese, the word“ginseng” means “root of man”, and was used 2000 years ago. The panax ginsengs are from the species of the genus Panax, and are commonly called Asian Ginseng, American Ginseng , Korean Red, and Chinese Ginseng; all of which contain ginsenosides in the roots. There is also a distant cousin of these ginsengs, called Siberian or Eleutherococcus Senticosus Ginseng, which has some similar properties.
Studies have shown that Panax Ginseng improves the stamina of athletes as well as reduces fatigue. Several studies have found that mental performance is improved with Ginseng, both for the young as well as the old. Sometimes this herb is used along with Ginkgo Biloba, to improve cognition and memory.

2. Schizandra or Schisandra Berries:
An Oriental herb, Schizandra has been studied and found to have many positive properties, which improve stamina and well being. Researchers have determined that it helps to accelerate restorative processes within the human body after exercise. They have also noticed a distinct anti-fatigue quality in test subjects.
There was a study with race horses, that showed that Schizandra lowered heart rate during exercise, resulted in a quicker recovery of respiratory functions, showed a reduction of plasma lactate, and improved performance. I am a thorough-bred for sure —

3. Astragalus Root:
This herb is used by Traditional Chinese Medicine to increase immune function. It is traditionally used as an adaptogen, to increase the body’s resistance to fatigue, stress, trauma, and illness. Astragalus, like ginseng is a root that contains properties to enhance your ability to handle stress and illness. Studies show that it can stimulate the immune system.
You can take these herbs in a tea or capsules that guarantee standardized potency.
