Yep, I did. I married a younger man. Even before Demi Moore made it fashionable. Of course, she married much, much younger.

When I was in high school, I seldom dated guys my age and never any younger than me. So, it seems funny that I ended up marrying a guy younger than me. Well, he’s not that much younger, only eight months. But now that we have been married for almost 34 years, I’m glad.

Men don’t age like women. They seem to get better looking with age — not all, but many do. Another nice thing — we remember the same music, the same tv shows, the trends. We continue to compare notes and memories and I am always surprised to hear a story from his growing up years that I have not heard. And surprisingly, cannot relate.

However, it’s funny we did not meet as teenagers. We’re both Southern Californians. I grew up in Glendale/La Crescenta and spent my summers in Huntington Beach. Hubby dear grew up in Downey, then Huntington Beach and spent his summers in the Central Valley of California. Our paths never crossed, though we traveled down the same streets, beaches, and even same track at his high school — just at different times of the year. Although, some weekends I was at the beach, during a regular school year, so our paths may have crossed.

I met him at college, when I was 22. He was 21.

The Photo of us was taken in 1977, for our engagement photo. This was the same day that hubby-dear, fiance/boyfriend-dear wrecked my car. (my nice sports car) And I do mean wrecked it. He slid into a curb, taking a corner too fast, and broke the axle. Now that is a red letter day. And that may go with the territory of marrying a younger guy. Boys mature later than girls. So this is good in some ways, not so good in other ways. I have been waiting a long time for that maturity to kick in.

My mom married a much older man — twice. She married my dad when she was 21, he was 32. When they divorced after 28 years of marriage, she married another man, her senior, she was 50, he was 61. But then, I watched how 11 years makes a big difference in age when one is 70 and the other is 80. He passed-on last year at the age of 90. My mom is very active at age 80 and has a lot of life left.

Here’s my mom and dad: (I’m lovin’ these old styles)
