Today must be a bing day.

My little granddaughter, 18 mos old shared her bottle and her bing (pacifier) with me this morning.

She woke early, a night of teething, so I decided to give her mommy a break and take her under my wing. We collected the assorted toys strewn about my room from last nights bath, and she helped me fold the clothes in my closet I had left unattended since yesterday.

She actually took the bing out of her mouth and popped into mine. Maybe she could tell I was a little tired this morning as well, and in need of comfort. I thought about it, and wished that such a little thing like a pacifier could bring relief–

To soothe, to calm–We all could use a little. What a wonderful thing.

I wish it worked for me. But I did not get the same calm feeling, even as I breathed in deeply and closed my eyes.

But I do appreciate her sharing. And being around me. Her presence and her hugs pacify me for sure.

Next we headed downstairs for breakfast, and being the good grandmother that I am, quickly understood her dialect when she informed me she wanted “kaakaakaa” … Chocolate.

She happened to spy a Hershey Chocolate Almond bar on the counter as I lifted her into my arms, and of course, being the good nona, I broke off a little corner and handed it to her. After all it is a bing day. What better replacement for the bing, than chocolate?

So we both shared the replacement. I ate the nuts, and she ate the chocolate. I actually set her up in her high chair and continued with tiny bits of chocolate. We were both feeling better in no time at all.

But feeling a little guilty for feeding my granddaughter chocolate for breakfast while her mommy slept, I popped some whole grain bread into the toaster, buttered it up with “fresh creamery butter” and cut it into quarters–three for her and one for me. Which we devoured as well.

It is a good morning, bing, chocolate, and hugs.

Actually, I am not feeling guilty about chocolate at all–it is good for females, and full of antioxidants, a claimed anti depressant.  I classify it as a vegetable for sure.
